Jungle Cats 18 and Unders Finish Strong in Chicago

The older cats continued their domination of the Lyons Township Invitational Tournament, winning their last game 14-4. Once again they got off to a sluggish start but began pressing which created plenty of turnovers. In front of a racous home crowd, the Cats ran away with the game against Lyons.
All in all, the tournament was a great success. The first club we played had ended up 8th in Illinois this past season, the club from Michigan contained multiple members from the state championship team of last year, and the final club we played ended up 4th in Illinois this past season. The coach I spoke with was most impressed with our ability to press. He said his team was used to a press but that ours overwhelmed them and they could not do anything. Coming away from the tournament I concluded that we are not a flashy group of water polo players. We play hard-nosed, fundamentally sound water polo. We work hard to get kick outs and score goals. It is evident that our style of polo is successful as we continue to win. A special thanks to the parents that chaperoned the trip and congratulate the group that represented Jungle Cats well.
